Simon Knight
Simon grew up in Devon, in the southwest of England, where a habit of questioning everything took root early. That curiosity has carried him through an unusually varied life. His first job was as a management trainee in an aluminum foundry, where he poured molten metal, shoveled sand, and welded cracks inside hot castings before ever being trusted to manage anyone—an experience that taught him every business is really just people doing hard things together, best understood from the shop floor up. From there his path took several sharp turns: he played in jazz fusion groups, big bands, and classical orchestras, learning that listening matters as much as playing, and spent three years as a competitive cyclist, becoming a regional champion before arbitrary age rules ended his Olympic hopes.
Simon then pivoted into software development, a move that carried him across the Atlantic to become U.S. President of the development-tools company TopSpeed, and later into Fortune 500 roles from enterprise technology architect to Chief Information Officer. Leading business transformations and conducting due diligence on acquisitions taught him to look past what organizations say about themselves to what their backstories reveal—and, along with an MBA from Warwick Business School, shaped the thinking behind Business Rewritten, which he conceived over two decades of consulting across startups, nonprofits, and mature enterprises. Still an active musician and co-founder of a chamber orchestra, Simon lives in California with his life partner, Carrie KC West—whose books Life Rewritten and Money Rewritten inspired his story-based approach—and their dog, Samworf the Brave, not far from his son in Los Angeles.
